The dates for the committe meetings have been altered. Please see the
fixtures section for the correct dates.

The AGM took place on 30th April and the fixtures have been arranged. As usual
we are opening the season at Witton Park; thanks to Blackburn Harriers who host
several fixtures throughout the year, and it’s a welcome return to Leverhulme Park
after a gap of several years for the third fixture. The presentation evening is
provisionally booked for 6th February.

Many thanks also to Glynn Woodward at Sweatshop Chorley who has agreed to
continue sponsorship of the league for another year.

Please note that handwritten numbers will not be acceptable and the wearing of such
will result in disqualification. Athletes who lose allocated numbers must be reregistered
by their team manager and a new number allocated. Have a good summer and we
hope to see you all in October.

AGM
Affiliated clubs will already have received notification but this will take place on
Wednesday 30th April at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury at 8.00pm. New clubs
wishing to affiliate must attend or notify the Secretary in advance. Amendments to
the constitution which could affect the rules for the forthcoming season have already
been proposed and will be discussed, so could everyone please make an effort to
attend. The number of affiliated clubs continues to expand but the task of ensuring
that the business of the league is carried out is left to a small number of individuals.
Please come along and have your say.

Hope that everyone enjoyed the final fixture at Marl Pits where we were treated
to some fine performances especially that of Northern Champion Andi Jones who
won for the second consecutive year. The heavy overnight frost made conditions
kinder than usual and the usual mud was limited to the upper part of the course.
The final league positions have been confirmed and are now on the website.

Tickets for the Presentation Evening on Friday 18th January at the Horwich RMI Club are
now available from team managers or from our Treasurer Joe Salt. Please note
that the club is open from 7.00pm and the evening will get under way with the
presentation at 8.00pm. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks to Norman and his team at Hyndburn for hosting the 3rd fixture in the
series in fairly difficult conditions. We believe that some runners did stray off
course in at least one of the races and will be discussing this at the next
committee meeting. Please email me or your club representative if you have
any observations on this matter. I’m sure that you all will be looking forward to
the final fixture at Marl Pits where pretty heavy conditions are guaranteed. Some
of the awards have been decided already but lots are still up for grabs which
should make for some good sport.

Instructions for the Hyndburn Fixture
Would runners and spectators please ensure that they do not encroach on to the
football pitches under any circumstances. If the football pitches are damaged we
could lose the use of this venue; Hyndburn council have threatened this in the past. Alternative warm up areas will be available.

Perfect conditions at Bury for the 2nd fixture. Thanks to Ken and Eileen and the
Bury team for hosting the fixture. There were problems with the results, most
of which were caused by athletes wearing incorrect numbers. We are doing our
utmost to try to resolve these issues and should be in a position to publish accurate
results after the next committee meeting. If anyone discovers errors in the provisional results please report them to Graham Fecitt and copy to your team manager.
Could team managers please bring their allocated numbers to the next fixtures
and re-register any runners who haven’t brought theirs with them. Handwritten
numbers are not acceptable and may lead to disqualification. Strictly speaking
this should be the case for runners who wear incorrect numbers.

16/11/07
Please note that the 3rd fixture at Hyndburn on Sunday 2nd December will now start at 12.30. The committee felt that at this time of the year the later races might suffer from fading light if we stuck to the published times.

Please also note that the presentation evening for the league has been booked for Friday 18th January 2008 at Horwich RMI club. Please put this date in your diaries and I will inform you of arrangements nearer the time.

A belated thank you to Richard and his team at Backburn Harriers for the Witton Park fixture, where once again the weather was very kind to us and we were treated to good conditions underfoot and a well marshalled and well marked course. There is a long gap now before the next fixture at Bury so can team managers please ensure that any challenges or corrections to the results have been notified so that we can confirm the results at the next committee meeting on 14th November.

Please note that there is limited parking at Chesham itself so runners are advised
to arrive early as they may have to park and walk to the start. Please park your
vehicles considerately. There may also be changes to the traditional course –
more information to follow.

We are very pleased that Sweatshop at Chorley, in conjunction with Mizuno, are to renew their sponsorship of the league. We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Glyn Woodward and his team in the past and look forward to their continuing support in the future. Glyn’s stall will be on site at each fixture so that athletes can make those last minute purchases.

For affiliated clubs their numbers are available for collection at Chorley as agreed at the last committee meeting. Any remaining numbers will be taken to Witton Park and distributed from a point adjacent to Graham Fecitt’s results van, from approximately 1.00pm onwards.

Club reps must not leave it until Saturday to register runners as Graham
will be fully occupied with ensuring that results are available. Email registrations to if you haven’t already done so. Please also note that apart from guests, who register themselves at each fixture, individuals must not attempt to register themselves, but must do so through their club reps.

I have been asked to clarify the new start times. The first three fixtures will commence with the under 11s at 1.30 pm. The last fixture at Rossendale will commence at 12.30pm with the last race starting at 2.00pm.

30/05/07
Rule Changes

A number of new rules and amendments were adopted at the recent AGM. The committee decided to allow under 11s races to become part of the league from next season with three to count for the team. Consequently fixtures will now start at 1.30 apart from the last at Rossendale which will start one hour earlier as normal.
The official start time for the men’s race will now be at 3.00. Please see the updated constitution when it appears in the Rules section.

Team managers please note that affiliations must be paid before the start of the season and most athletes must be registered at least one week before the first fixture. If large numbers of people try to register runners at the first fixture, as has happened in the past, results will not be available on the day. In fact if this happens we can’t guarantee that runners will be registered in time to compete.
We would also like to see more club representatives at the committee meetings in order to ensure the smooth running of the league and also to avoid confusion about rules etc.

Good luck to everyone for the forthcoming season.

Annual General Meeting
The AGM will take place on Wednesday 16th May at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury at 8.00pm. It is essential that all clubs wishing to affiliate to the League for the forthcoming season send a representative. Clubs wishing to affiliate for the first time are welcome.

The AGM will decide on dates and venues, the election of officers, any rule changes and we will endeavour to explain systems and protocols that ensure the smooth running of the League. We hope to see you all there.

I hope that everyone enjoyed the final fixture at Marl Pits. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way. There were some excellent performances, particularly Andi Jones’ impressive victory in the men’s race, on a very muddy course.

We will publish the official overall positions after Wednesday’s meeting and look forward to seeing everyone at the presentation evening at Bacup Leisure Hall on Friday 19th January. Tickets will be available soon from team managers.

Would anyone still in possession of perpetual trophies please pass these on to your team manager.

Thanks to Norman Mitchell and his team who provided us with a taste of traditional cross country at Hyndburn. Lots of favourable comments about the course which was run in reverse this year. There were some problems with registrations so I have outlined some procedures below which both athletes and team managers should follow

Congratulations to Chris Slessor from Bolton who was the winner of the Walsh draw at Bury. The winner from Hyndburn will be drawn at the next committee meeting.

Registration Procedure

Guests must register for each fixture with the results service.

Athletes from affiliated clubs must register with their club rep. and must retain their number for each fixture.

Lost numbers must be replaced with a new number obtained from club reps at a cost of £1.00 each; handwritten numbers are not acceptable.

Club reps must attend each fixture or nominate someone from their club to deal with any problems with numbers. Replacement numbers should be registered before the race commences.

If any club has used their allocated numbers they can obtain more from registration.

The results service will only deal with club reps, guests and results sales. Individual athletes from affiliated clubs should not approach the results service. Any queries regarding results should be made through club reps. The committee will attempt to resolve any problems at their next meeting.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation. It might seem officious but Graham Fecitt’s team are often hard pressed to get results out on the day if they have to deal with unnecessary queries.
